I heard about a campaign not so long ago about placing an advert on the side of London buses to promote free thought and Atheism. There’s enough Christian adverts around so its about time Atheists had a little pay back hehe.
I was quite dubious about whether this campaign would work because its very hard to rally Atheists, after all there is nothing really holding them together only a common skepticism about the supernatural. Lots of people think Homeopathy is a load of rubbish, but they don’t form anti-Homeopathy groups and start advertising campaigns, so I didn’t hold out much hope for this. But I was totally shocked at the amount of support it received, to put things into perspective the target amount was £5,500, the current total amount of donations stands at a whopping £49,000!!! And I believe that the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science is pledging a further £5,500 bringing the total to a stagering £54,500!!!!!! Considering that this amount of money has been raised in a single day it shows just how MUCH support for Atheism there really is out there.
I think this really highlights how the public feel about religion in this country. It seems that people have just had enough of religion. People are just fed up with it, at least the people I’ve spoken to, and don’t want it rammed down their throats anymore. If nothing else, this campaign has shown just how strong the secular community is, it’s flexed its muscle for the first time and found out that its quite a beefcake
If the secular community works together like this more often then maybe we can start changing things for the better. Anyways if you want to donate to this cause (I donated £5 and I’m a poor student) then go the this address http://www.atheistcampaign.org/. Lets see how strong the secular community really is!

Yeah i just posted this comment :
“But, they could have done better than “There’s probably no God.” Probably?”
No its very good .
Its better than like suggesting ” God is real ” without any real evidence or proof .
Its much more honest and based on fact .The fact that its left to just being probably rather than that of a complete claim, shows a lack of ignorance. Its a great suggestion that still contains options for further evidence and learning .
Its very modern .
On this blog http://jrobertlancaster.wordpress.com/2008/10/21/the-richard-dawkins-reality-tour/
Whether it gets past moderation or not is another matter though, guess time will tell. As with buses many religious folk find it hard to share thought space in this world. They speak of tolerance but yet find the actual actions hard to handle themselves. They call it militant atheism yet forget the militancy of much religion so easily .
And they then feel shocked and stunned when these things happen , and as an excuse they lay the blame elsewhere on suggestions of evil .

Yes, good point about the “probably”. I really like the use of this word, probably is a word that needs to be respected a little more! Of course we can’t be 100% certain about anything, we can’t be certain that fairies, unicorns or flying teapots don’t exist, but because we can’t prove that they don’t, doesn’t mean we have to believe in them just in case they do!
